Sometimes the best transformations start with the biggest challenges.
In 2024-2025, we invited homeowners across upstate and western New York to participate in our “Ugliest Bath Contest.” We asked people to submit photos of their most outdated and worn‑down bathrooms. The responses were overwhelming. Dozens of homeowners shared their spaces, each with its own history and character.
After careful review (and plenty of debate!), our team voted on the bathroom we felt truly earned the title.
Meet the Winner: Jennifer from Albany, NY
The winning submission came from Jennifer A. of Albany, NY.
Jennifer’s home was built in 1959, and remarkably, her bathroom had never been renovated. The space was a time capsule of mid‑century design, featuring:
- Outdated black marble tile panels
- A pink bathtub and pink sinks that Jennifer affectionately called “Pepto‑Bismol pink”
- Aging finishes that no longer met her needs for comfort or accessibility
While the bathroom had plenty of history, it was ready for a modern update.
From Dated to Dream Bathroom
As the winner of the Ugliest Bath Contest, Jennifer received $25,000 towards a full bathroom transformation. The results were dramatic!
A Safer, More Accessible Shower
We replaced the old bathtub with a new walk‑in shower, creating a more open and accessible layout. The shower features Comfort’s Hi-Tech Polymer wall panels in the color “Versailles,” offering a clean, elegant look that instantly brightened the space.
Modern Vanity & Sleek Black Fixtures
The outdated vanity and sink were replaced with a new modern vanity, paired with sleek black fixtures that add contrast and a contemporary feel throughout the bathroom.
New Window, Built Locally
To improve both comfort and efficiency, we replaced the old bathroom window with a new double‑hung window, manufactured by our own Comfort team in Syracuse, NY. The new window brings in natural light while improving insulation and durability.
Updated Flooring & Finishing Touches
The transformation was completed with:
- Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) flooring to replace the old tile floor
- A modern mirror with built‑in lighting, adding both function and style
- A modern, clean coat of light blue paint that pairs perfectly with the new vanity, shower, and mirror.
Every element was chosen to work together, creating a space that feels cohesive, spacious, and refreshed.
A Bathroom That Feels Like a New Home
Jennifer was thrilled with the results.
She shared that the new bathroom feels more spacious, more accessible, and completely modern. She said the transformation makes her entire home feel like new again.
